The freshwater mico-algae, Chlorella, grows in fresh water and contains many vital nutrients, including minerals, trace elements (iron, potassium, calcium, magnesium), vitamins (provitamin A, B12, E), amino acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids and an increased level of chlorophyll.
Its cell membranes contain sporopollenin, a substance which absorbs toxic matter (mercury, lead, aluminium, pesticides) accumulated in the body. For an optimal effect, this substance is enriched in selenium. Chlorella also contains chlorelline, which stimulates the growth of lactobacillus, bacteria which are essential for digestion.
